Web 2.0 was a learning experience and one I will continue with. I appreciate the opportunity provided to me and the very helpful and professional program prepared by Elaine. It is
reassuring to have such an immediately helpful IT department, and we do.
My comfort level in navigating the computer world has increased significantly and I plan on revisiting some of the things we have touched on...not Twitter though. I joined Facebook thinking that was part of the program and that enabled me to view some of my son's sailing voyage. Turns out we did not need to join facebook, I did not like it, however it reconnected me with one of my best friends from high school in Virginia. In his writings, he sent me links to Youtube regarding favorites of his and I thought, wow, how did he do that?. Well, I have now also sent a link to youtube in my blog, what a coincidence.
I am printing web 2.0 and plan on revisiting some of our explorations, definately Library Thing. library related podcasts, RSS Feeds and more.
I would post a blog on Netlibrary, thing#23, but I do not have my library card with me and so I cannot join tonight. Will comment later though.
Thanks Elaine.

podcasts
I am exploring podcasts, but want to post before I leave today...time is running out! I have
clicked on a few podcasts and will go back and listen to more in a minute. Will there be no
television soon? Computers only? I really cannot see the storytime podcasts as satisfying
at all, but I do recognize podcasts are a useful way to view information.

P.S. the rest of Youtube thing
Having viewed some of the library youtube vidoes. I can see how creating one could add to our
new and amazing WPL website. I am sure someone is already thinking about or doing this, but
it is new to me.

Youtube thing 21
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyDY0hiMZy8 I did it!!! Youtube is interesting and alot
of fun. This link is to the Mr. Bean at the Library video, yes I am having fun. It is laugh out
loud hilarious as usual. I like the way the share button worked!I also enjoyed Creative ways libraries are using Youtube and especiallyCalgary Public Library's Story Time, now that is creative.

I am still hitting enter after the title, unbelievable!
There, I clicked here instead. I really am more comfortable with all this navigating. Not sure if
I blogged correctly on the Favorite Blogs page but I did comment on books and vacation spots,
however briefly.

Thing #19 Wikis
Exploring wikis was fun, easy to navigate and interesting. And while I admit to often reading
Wikipedia for quick information, I worry about the integrity of wikis. I wonder if other readers
do as well, but it looks as if advocates of wikis believe in the purpose of the authors.
Out of the tutorial Wikis in Plain English, I found group lists to be very interesting and can think
of a number of uses for them. I plan to revisit thing # 19 but for now, am running out of time!

Thing 17
Library 2.o -There is no arguing that the world is changing and libraries along with it. From the perspective of Dr. Wendy Schultz, To a Temporary Place in Time, "libraries are not just in communities, they are communities". I really like that.
Thing 16
Technorati has been explored. I can see how different combinations of searches yeild different
results and I disappear into blogland. I really see it as a world of infinity, you could just go on
and on and on. Some links to blogs were not active so I would alter my search. Top blogs
definately got my curiosity and I spent some time exploring there.

Thing 15
I have been lightly exploring Delicious and I did view the videos. Posted in my mind now is
a general idea of its usefulness. I am not much of a bookmarker etc. so did not actually join
this site. I like that exploration was still possible. On to new next discovery...

Yes thing 13 is library thing
and I keep hitting enter and posting my title without the post. I like LibrayThing and I will
spend time exploring it and learning from it. I plan to list books that I want to remember
to read and think this would be a good place to do it. I have joined and will explore more later.
I entered the tag "babytime" out of cuiosity, and there is much I want to read there.

Thing #12
Well, I am glad to open my mind to possibilities, but I have discovered that Twitter is something
I am not interested in. Still, I now know what it is. As usuual, it was easy to join the site. I don't
know where all my "friends" came from so suddenly, but I am glad Dr. Phil is one of them! I also
don't know why people are following me when I haven't said anything.
Today is American Thanksgiving and I quickly rec'd many such tweets, however they really
said nothing. That is my problem with Twitter.
I did learn somewhere in searching, that to send private messages on twitter, type D+username.

Thing 11
Technorati was simple to navigate, as simple as typing in 'libraries', brought up interesting blogs
related to the topic. I quickly noted that Libray Weblogs and Internet Public Library, Librarians, and Library Science Blogs would make very interesting exploration. I mostly notice
that blogging and following blogs, and RSS feeds are all still very time consuming. They are
interesting however, if I had the inclination to spend so much time on the computer. Granted I
am slow in these explorations!

I repeat, Thing 10
Having successfully set-up my own google reader account, I was thrilled to discover how simple
it is to subscribe to RSS feeds . I now can be alerted quickly to news and information that I
have an interest in...narrowing down from infinity it would seem.

Thing 7 ran out of time for too much more fun...
Thing 8. I am excited to have learned two new things. Could be common knowledge out there,
however, new to me. 1. Did you know that a url or other item which has been copied and pasted,
remains in memory, and can be pasted again and again, only clearing when something new is
copied. 2. Also learned while editing my website posting, that the keys 'shift' and 'enter' will
alter the spacing from double to single. I suppose it also works in reverse, will have to look into this.

Week 3 Thing 6 Flickr Fun

Betsy's Flickr Link
Notice a pattern here...I had to use this cute little guy again.
I did open a flickr account and uploaded him from our WPL hard drive.
Unfortunately, it could not be added to my blog from there, hence
the above flickr link. Do I sound like I have any idea what I am talking about? I have certainly been clicking on alot of things and some things
are becoming clearer, such as, Elaine is a very patient person!
Somewhere in this exercise we have been asked to post a comment on
one of our blogs. I have just done this as well, it was actually easy, what a relief. Going to check on what to do next and then will return.

Here I am to share news. Because, I now know that blogs are an easy way for people to share
news as a two way street, and to choose what is news. I like to be reminded of the notion that
life is a journey of learning. I believe attitude is very important, and am prepared to view
problems as challenges, so I have decided this is easy. Most difficult however, is imagining myself a mentor with regards to technical matters. I happily dial 2006, if you know what I mean. There are mentors there! With Web 2.0 , I hope to become more aware of all things
computers can do.
